Bendix EC-80 / EB-80 ABS Controller
Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems · Brakes · ABS controller
What this component does
The Bendix EC-80 (and updated EB-80) is the dominant ABS/EBS controller for North American Class 7-8 trucks — used in virtually every modern highway tractor and vocational truck. Provides 4-channel ABS for tandem rear axles + steer axle, plus integrated ESC (Electronic Stability Control), Traction Control, and Roll Stability Control. The Bendix controller works with all standard air brake foundation hardware (drums or air-disc) from Bendix and competitors.

Design and engineering
ECU mounted in cab or chassis junction box. Receives wheel speed sensor inputs from each wheel position (4 channels). Controls ABS solenoid valves at each wheel position. Integrated CAN bus communication with engine ECM, transmission TCM, and steering angle sensor for ESC.
Generations
- EC-80 (2010–2018)Replaced earlier EC-60. Added integrated stability control.
- EB-80 (2019–present)Refined ESC algorithms, improved trailer stability, integrated parking brake control.
Reliability and longevity
Strong reliability — Bendix EC/EB-80 is one of the most-used ABS controllers in commercial trucking. Million-mile service common.
Common problems
Wheel speed sensor wiring corrosion (most common ABS fault). Tone ring damage. Solenoid valve sticking on older controllers. DTC C0036, C0041, C0046 (LF/RF/LR wheel speed) are common at 500K+ miles.
Maintenance schedule
ABS self-test at every key-on. Wheel speed sensor inspection at brake service. ABS DTC scan at every PM.
Pros and cons
Pros
- ✓Industry-standard for Class 7-8 ABS
- ✓Integrated ESC + traction control
- ✓Strong service network
