Company history

Chevrolet has built trucks since 1918. The Silverado nameplate began in 1975 as a trim level on the C/K truck line, then became the model name in 1999. The Kodiak medium-duty was a popular Class 6-7 product through 2009 when GM exited medium-duty during the financial crisis. GM returned to medium-duty in 2018 with the Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD, built in partnership with Navistar. The Duramax 6.6L L5P has been the Chevy HD diesel since 2017.
